In case you're wondering what the Ultrasound did really sound like, here are some sounds I've sampled from actual demoscene productions from the heyday of the Ultrasound series. All sound samples were recorded with a 500MHz Athlon with a SB Live Platinum soundcard. The sound source was a 486DX2/66 computer with an Ultrasound Ace (the chassis was too small to fit in the Classic or MAX). The sound was saved to a wave file from Sound Forge and compressed to 192kbps MP3 with Audioactive Production Studio with high quality enabled.

Ambient Power by Vogue [938KB]
Recored from the demo Crystal Dream 2 by Triton, which is considered as one of the demos that defined the PC demoscene in the early 1990s. This song played during the amazing Mandelbrot-zoomer part, something never seen before in PC demos.

Autonomous by Skaven [938KB]
Recorded from the original Scream Tracker 3 module, played with my own S3M player. One of Skaven's later tracks, featuring some nice filtering effects without actually using filters (not that ST3 had any filters, for that matter).

Birds' Garden by The Rew [938KB]
Recored from the Imphobia diskmagazine issue 11. Imphobia is one the greatest diskmags ever made in the PC demoscene, and countless hours were spent reading the interesting articles and listening to the musics, of which this track has probably etched deepest into my memory.

Caero by Dune [938KB]
Recorded from the demo Caero by Plant/EMF, which won the demo competition at The Party 1995. This demo is among my all time favourites, and not least because of the magnificent soundtrack by Dune (aka. brothomStates).

Chiba City Lights 96 by Basehead [938KB]
Recored from the original Scream Tracker 3 module, played with my own S3M player. In my opinion, this is one of Basehead's best tracks - well progressing house track with a nice melodic lead.

Desert Dawn by Lizardking [938KB]
Recorded from the demo Crystal Dreams 2 by Triton. This song is a perfect example of Lizardking's unique music style, which he calls 'doskpop'.

Drift by Nobody [938KB]
Recorded from the 64KB intro Drift by Wild Light, which won the intro competition at Assembly 1996. Again, a very nicely designed combination of good music and advanced visuals.

Points of Departure by Necros [938KB]
Recored from the original Scream Tracker 3 module, played with my own S3M player. A great track by Necros, brilliant melodies and good drum samples. Couldn't find the music disk the track was originally featured in, so had to play it with a different play routine.

Starshine by Purple Motion [938KB]
Recorded from the original Scream Tracker 3 module, played with my own S3M player. This song is one of Purple Motion's classics, which was featured in the Journey musicdisc.

We go by Jugi [938KB]
Recorded from the 64KB intro We Go by Complex, which took the number two spot at Assembly 1996 intro competition. Although some people might say the intro is rather simple, in my opinion it's a brilliant blend of great music, vividly colored visuals, and stimulating poetry.

X14 by Dune [938KB]
Recored from the demo X14 by Orange, another of my favourite demos, featuring some excellent design ideas and coding trickery. All that coupled with this excellent track by Dune results in one of the best PC demos in the 1990s.

Yhdyslinkki 5B by Croaker [938KB]
Recored from the original Scream Tracker 3 module, played with my own S3M player. A very well made track which took part in the Assembly 95 multichannel compo but was unfortunately not played.
